Telluride, Colorado – On Saturday, August 29th at 5pm in Rebekah Hall, lower level (located near the Telluride fire station), the Telluride Adaptive Sports Program (TASP) will present a video and picture presentation of the recent Alaskan Adventure Week. Four physically disabled participants, including 3 Telluride locals, spent 9 nights in Alaska — 3 of which were on a remote glacier in Denali National Park. Here the guides and participants set up an accessible base camp, went on a couple of ski tours around the glacier, were prepared for ice or rock climbing (weather permitting), and enjoyed life in the backcountry. Once off the glacier the trip ended with a river salmon fishing trip.
“Being in remote Alaska restored my own inner vitality and belief that I could still experience what I thought was untouchable from a wheelchair. Less than two years later after my injury, I found myself not only walking, but snowshoeing on a pristine glacier in the middle of Alaska. My experience in here has been a gateway to infinite possibilities. I am humbled by life’s ability to keep offering surprises.”
-- Sylvie Fadrhonc, Alaska Adventure participant
Join some of the participants and guides this Saturday at Rebekah Hall (Aug, 29th, 5 pm) to relive this adventure, see pictures, and ask questions to those involved.
There will also be a short video presentation called “I did… and I am” that highlights local James Colt’s journey working through his life-changing injury and some of his recent accomplishments. This is a definite don’t miss!
TASP could not offer the Alaskan Adventure without the generous support of Mountain Trip, MaHay’s Riverboat Service, San Juan Outdoor School, Talkeetna Air Taxi, Alaska Mountaineering and Hiking, Jagged Edge and Challenge Alaska. Thank you for making this week possible!
