Stay current with what's happening on the glacier... here's a link to the Alaska Adventure 2010 Mountain Trip Blog Spot. We have received several updates already!

Todd Rutledge, of Mountain Trip says it best, "Heidi Kloos was a source of strength, humor, energy and love to all who had the good fortune to spend time with her." A TASP Memorial Fund has been created in her honor. Heidi was the lead guide for the first ever TASP Alaska Adventure (see picture at left). This fund will be used to sponsor one disabled female athlete to attend our annual summer trek to Alaska.

Tim McGough, Program Manager, on leftJust south of the Arctic Circle, deep in the Alaskan wilderness lays one of the most stunning and magnificent mountain ranges on the planet.  The 600 mile long Alaska Range is a land of superlatives and crowned by the tallest peak in North America, Mount McKinley.  Glaciers thousands of feet deep carve valleys through the range, constantly changing, shifting and altering the dramatic landscape.  Hundreds of peaks and glaciers are protected within the 6 million acre Denali National Park and Preserve.

Mountain Trip (MT) was born in this range in 1973 and guides hundreds of climbers across these glaciers and up the peaks of the Alaska Range each summer.  MT is proud to be working in collaboration with the Telluride Adaptive Sports Program to offer a unique opportunity for their guests to head north and experience the grandeur and wilds of Alaska.

Over the course of a week in Alaska, guests will fly in ski-equipped bush planes from the small outpost of Talkeetna to the Pika Glacier in the Alaska Range.  Mountain Trip guides and TASP personnel will spend four days helping guests explore the area commonly known as Little Switzerland and learn the basics of glacier mountaineering.  Three nights will be spent camping in the snow, skiing or snowshoeing, and perhaps climbing a peak or two as appropriate.  This magical area boasts granite peaks with mythical names such as the Royal Tower, the Trolls and the Throne.  It doesn’t take long for visitors to find themselves under their spell. At the end of our glacier tour, we’ll load up our ski plane and fly back to Talkeetna.  The following day, the group will travel up one of the three rivers which converge at Talkeetna and spend the day fishing for salmon with Mahay’s Riverboat Service.  Finally, we will travel back to Anchorage to make connections for flights home.

If you are interested in joining us on this amazing adventure in 2010,
please call Tim McGough, 970.728.3865, to reserve your spot today!
